About Lucy
When we were looking for our new cocker spaniel in 2023, we wanted to ensure our new family pet was healthy and free from inherited health conditions. We found Lucy (kennel name Kensesqui Fuli) using Pets for Homes, and she was clear for:
Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) – an inherited nerve disorder
Familial Nephropathy (FN) – an inherited kidney disease
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (DNA – prcd-PRA) – an inherited progressive rod-cone degeneration in the eye
This means that neither Lucy, nor her puppies, can suffer from these conditions.
Lucy has also been DNA tested by the Kennel Club to confirm this.
She has also been tested under the BVA-KC/ISDS Eye Scheme – a physical screening program run by the British Veterinary Association (BVA), The Royal Kennel Club (KC), and the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS).
How it works: An expert veterinary ophthalmologist physically examines the dog’s eyes using specialized equipment like slit lamps and ophthalmoscopes.
What it checks for: It screens Cocker Spaniels for active, inherited physical eye conditions, most notably Hereditary Cataracts (HC) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
We did these checks to ensure all of Lucy’s puppies would be healthy, free from these conditions. You can see her kennel club health record on the Kennel Club Web Site
